This research is a qualitative descriptive research. The data collection were done in two ways, namely, (1) refer technique and (2) record technique. Data analysis procedures used trough three stages: (1) data reduction, (2) presentation of data, and (3) conclusion / verivication. Based on the research result, there was the use of devices of grammatical and lexical cohesion in Mercusuar daily editorial discourse of may 2016 edition. Devices used in the grammatical cohesion of discourse include, (1) grammatical forms of cohesion devices, including : (a) molding (reference), (b) ellipsis (deletion), (c) subtitution, and (d) a conjungtion. Lexical cohesion devices include (a) reps (repetition) that replicated that same right (intact), repeat with replacement, replicated the shape change, repeat with synonym, repeat with hyponym, and (b) collocation. 2) Cohesion devices function as follows : (a) the reference refer to a participant who had been mentioned first in discourse, (b) subtitution serves to replace the spesific language elements with other elements that are interchangeable, (c) ellipsis (deletion). There are some functions that use ellipsis, namely: (1) the effectiveness of the sentence, (2) language efficiency usage, (3) cohesion discourse, (4) to activate the mind of reader or listener to language which didn’t explicitly disclosed, (5) practicality language, and (d) conjungtion. Conjungtions functions are, (1) the relationship of resistance, (2) stating causality, (3) the relationship extra, (4)the relationship comparison and (5) express a temporal relationship. The used of lexical cohesion in the form of repetition. Data source were obtained through verbal utterances of seller and buyer in complex of Palu Plaza by using study of communication ethnography. Method used in this research is qualitative descriptive. Data were collected through four techniques: recording, field-note, observation, and interview unstructured. Subject of this research is the seller and the buyer in Palu Plaza. Technique of data analysis used is interactive model that covers four stages: data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion and verification. The result of this research revealed that the language diversity used in the interaction between seller and buyer in Palu Plaza is: (1) the form of word use, (2) the use of phrase, (3) the use of sentence. Functions of language diversity found in this research are: (1) emotive function, (2) fatigue function, and (3) directive function. Pengambilan data di ambil dari Pretest dan Posttest. Data yang teridentifikasi bahwa nilai rata rata siswa di kelas experiment 78.03 lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan kelas kontrol yang mana nilai rata rata hanya 6.12. Dalam melakukan analisis data dengan menggunakan rumus t-test. Perhitungan hasil data tcount(tc) adalah 6.12 lebih tinggi di bandingkan dengan hasil data ttable(tt) yang hanya 1.998. Dari hasil yang teridentifikasi bahwa ada pengembangan yang signifikan dalam mengajarkan permainan papan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan siswa dalam berbicara. This research is a classroom action research subject class XI student of SMKN 1 Ampibabo. This research was conducted in two cycles, with the results of research on teacher observation results of the first cycle 68%, while 16.6% student activity observation with the results of the evaluation of learning outcomes students' average score of 6.6, with a 38% percentage of completeness. Referring to KKM applicable in SMK 1 Ampibabo average value of 70 with classical completeness 80%, the result of cycle I have not reached the standard of completeness. Implementation of the second cycle showed significant improvements. The results of observations of teachers increased to 100%, observation of student activity 66.7% 33.3% good and excellent categorized with the evaluation results determine the student's ability plot, characterization and background stories that the average value obtained by the students of 7.9. The research results show that the application of explicit instruction model in fast reading were done in a phase, namely the orientation phase, percentage, guided training, and self-training. The research results in cycle i which has been done, the average reading speed of students 256.6, unterstanding the content of 57.2 percent with percentage of classical learning mastery was 40,9 percent. Refer to Minimum Achievement Criteria (KKM) which apply in Indonesian languange learning at SMP Negeri 20 Sigi, the average value is 70 and classical learning achievenmt is 80 percent, The results of this research appears to have not reached the standard of mastery. The action of cycle II, students’ skill was improved. 22 students have shown the speed of reading of reading of 274.9 speed per minute (KPM) with understanding of the average content of 80.6. Refer to Minimum Achievement Criteria (KKM) which apply in Indonesian languange learning at SMP Negeri 20 Sigi, the result has reached the standar of completeness. Technique of collecting data there are three that is, documentation, recording and interview. Data analysis techniques are descriptively inductive. The research results show that there were 11 values contained in the verse of Sayed Idrus bin Salim Aljufri namely the values of education, social, religious, philosophy, historical, psychological, economic, moral, legal, cultural, and struggle. The implications of poetry value in character education, among others, the value of education implies with self that includes motivation to study, love science, logical thinking, critical, creative and innovative. Social values have implications for self and sesame in the form of hard work, good manners and good speech. Religious values imply on the relationship with God Almighty in the form of thoughts, words and actions pursued based on the value of the Deity / religious teachings. The value of philosophy implies self-love of knowledge. Historical value implies the fellow and the environment that is appreciating the work and achievements of others; attitudes and role models prevent damage to the natural environment surrounding. The value of psychology has implications for itself in the form of responsible attitudes. The economic value implies itself as an entrepreneurial spirit. The moral values implicated in them are honest and polite. The value of the law has implications for the relationship with God Almighty and to others who obey the social rules. The culture value has the own implications in the form of hard work, courteous and appreciate the work of others. Penelitian ini menerapkan desain kuasi eksperimental dengan nonequivalent pretest-posttest kelompok kontrol sebagai desainnya. Sampel dari penelitian ini dipilih dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Peneliti memilih kelas XI MIA 2 sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas XI MIA 5 sebagai kontrol kelas. Instrumen pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah kuesioner dan tes. Data dikumpulkan dan dianalisa dengan menggunakan statistik uji-t dan metode deskriptif. Nilai rata-rata kelas eksperimen adalah 81.7, sedangkan nilai rata-rata dari kelas kontrol adalah 70.7, dengan menerapkan uji-t, ditemukan perbandingan yang menunjukkan bahwa nilai t-hitung (2.74) lebih tinggi dibandingkan nilai t-tabel (1.998). Dengan kata lain, nilai rata-rata siswa pada kelas eksperimen meningkat dari 55.9 ke 81.7. Penerapan teknik curah pendapat juga meningkatkan motivasi siswa dalam menulis teks prosedur. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan hasil kuesioner. Ditemukan bahwa nilai t-hitung (3.20) lebih tinggi dari nilai t-tabel (2.042). Nilai rata-rata motivasi siswa meningkat dari 73.0 ke 79.9. Hasil dari tes dan kuesioner menunjukkan bahwa hipotesa alternative (Ha) diterima dan hipotesa nol (H0) ditolak. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah quasi-eksperimental. Sehingga, terdapat dua kelas yang diberikan tes awal dan tes akhir. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas X Ilmu Ilmu Sosial (IIS) SMA Negeri 4 Palu yang berjumlah 170 siswa dan sampelnya adalah kelas X IIS 1 yang berjumlah 31 siswa sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas X IIS 2 yang berjumlah 33 sebagai kelas kontrol. Sampel diambil dengan menggunakan tehnik purposive sampling. Instrumen pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah test. Data dianalisa menggunakan metode statistik uji-t untuk mengetahuin perbedaan signifikan dari pencapaian siswa di kelas eksperimen dan kontrol. Berdasarkan hasil test, nilai rata-rata siswa pada kelas eksperimen adalah 73.11, sedangkan nilai rata-rata siswa pada kelas kontrol adalah 63.22. Hasil perbandingan nilai rata-rata melalui uji-t dengan mengaplikasikan perbandingan level 0.05 dan derajat kebebasan 62 (64-2) ditemukan bahwa nilai t-hitung (3.48) lebih tinggi dibandingkan nilai t-tabel (1.999). Populasi penelitian ini adalah kelas XI jurusan IPA MAN 2 Model Palu yang terdiri dari enam kelompok paralel. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain quasi-eksperimen dan memiliki 50 siswa sebagai sampel yang dipilih melalui purposive sampling. XI IPA2 sebagai kelompok eksperimen sebanyak 28 siswa dan XI IPA3 sebagai kelompok kontrol sebanyak 22 siswa. Data diperoleh melalui observasi dan tes yang terdiri dari tes awal dan tes akhir. Data tersebut kemudian dianalisis menggunakan statistik deskriptif dan statistik uji-t. Ditemukan bahwa nilai rata-rata dari pemahaman membaca kelompok eksperimen adalah 75.1 lebih besar dari kelompok kontrol, 67.6. Hasil analisis uji-t menggambarkan bahwa dengan derajat kebebasan (dk) 48 (28+22-2) dan level signifikan 0.05, nilai t-hitung, 3.134 lebih tinggi daripada nilai t-table, 2.012. Sehingga, Ha diterima dan H0 ditolak. Siklus 1 terdiri dari tiga pertemuan dan siklus 2 terdiri dari dua pertemuan. Subjek penelitian ini terdiri dari dua puluh siswa. Untuk mengukur penguasaan kosakata, tes individu diberikan. Kriteria keberhasilan individu adalah 72 dan klasikal 75%. Hasil siklus 1 menunjukkan terdapat 12 (60,00%) siswa berhasil dan 8 (40,00%) siswa gagal. Pada siklus 2 terdapat 16 (80,00%) berhasil dan 4 (20,00%) siswa gagal. Penelitian tidak dilanjutkan pada siklus berikutnya, karena kriteria ketuntasan sudah dicapai. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif descirptive dimana peneliti menerapkan dua tahap; pertama, membaca novel "Einstein’s Dreams" karya Alan Lightman, kedua, memilih kalimat disetiap halaman yang mencakup lima jenis teori deiksis. Hasil yang diperoleh dari penelitian ini adalah, deiksis personal banyak digunakan pada novel Einstein’s Dreams karya Alan Lightman. Deksis personal dapat dibagi kedalam tiga bagian, yaitu orang pertama, orang kedua, dan orang ketiga karena penulis ingin mengungkapkan tentang peserta pertuturan dalam situasi pertuturan dimana tuturan tersebut dibuat. Deiksis waktu juga sering muncul karena penulis ingin mengungkapkan waktu pada saat penuturan sedang berlangsung. Deiksis ruang juga muncul karena penulis ingin menjelaskan lokasi ruang pada penunjukkan dari ucapan. Deiksis wacana juga muncul karena digunakan untuk merujuk kepada beberapa bagian dari wacana yang mengandung ucapan sebagai tanda dan hubungannya pada teks yang melingkupi.
